According to data, the dilemma in the global supply chain is easing, or at least has stopped getting worse.
The number of containers stranded at the Port of Los Angeles for more than nine days has fallen by about a third since the Port of Los Angeles announced fines for carriers stranded for too long in October, according to Bloomberg data.
Shipping and retail executives said the backlog at U.S. ports is expected to clear in early 2022, as output slows due to the end of the holiday shopping season and a week of shutdowns at many factories in China for the Lunar New Year in February.
Global shipping industry earnings peak, decline in 2022, Moody's downgrades market forecasts
A few days ago, Moody's, an internationally renowned rating agency, downgraded the outlook for the global shipping industry from "positive" to "stable".
The agency also predicts that after this year's outstanding performance, the total EBITDA of the global shipping industry will decline in 2022, but it will still be much higher than the level before the outbreak.
Moody's downgrades the outlook for the global shipping industry:
In an analysis, Moody's said market conditions in the shipping industry "remain solid" but "unlikely to be better than today" over the next 12-18 months.
Daniel Harlid, vice president and senior analyst at Moody's, said: "Earnings for container ships and dry bulk carriers, both at record levels, will decline from their peaks but remain elevated. Limited earnings in 2022 The delivery of new ships will help keep freight rates at a high level.”
Moody's believes that the consolidation of liner companies contributes to the stability of the container shipping industry. In 2008, the capacity of the world's top five liner companies accounted for only 38% of the entire container shipping industry, but this year it has grown to 65%.
Regarding the market supply and demand outlook, Moody's believes that although the current transportation demand is still high and will continue to be strong in 2022, the growth rate is expected to slow down, the supply and demand growth will remain basically balanced, and the demand growth may slightly outpace the capacity growth.
However, in 2022, the capital expenditure of shipping companies will continue to increase, mainly due to the implementation of increasingly stringent environmental regulations in the industry. Moody's said that the demand for newer and more energy-efficient ships will still be the main theme in 2022, and shipping companies will spend a lot of money to update their fleets.
According to Drewry's statistics, the profit of the global container shipping industry is expected to reach 150 billion US dollars this year, setting a new record. In 2020 the figure was only $25.4 billion.

Efforts made by countries to ensure the stability of the global supply chain
As a major exporter of goods, China is constantly improving port infrastructure and improving the automation of port terminals. Through stable and efficient operations 7X24 hours a day, the exported goods can be shipped out efficiently and safely.
We have made every effort to ensure the stability of the global supply chain, especially what we can control domestically. Internationally, China has also actively responded to the call of the United Nations and made positive contributions.
Recently, the Ministry of Transport of China officially issued the "14th Five-Year" Development Plan for Comprehensive Transportation Services (referred to as the "Plan"), (reply to [006] to obtain the full text of the plan) with the overall goal of accelerating the construction of a strong transportation country, and accelerating the construction of convenient, smooth, A modern comprehensive transportation service system that is cost-effective, open and shared, green, intelligent, safe and reliable.
As a country with a huge import volume, the Biden administration has also adopted 24H operations recently, and it has also accelerated by charging container port detention fees. The operation of the terminal has also received good results!
The United Nations is also promoting maritime stakeholders, data sharing, and jointly promoting the normalization of global supply chains!
